Firefighter Visit ~ May 5, 2006

A firefighter came to our classroom to show us his gear. He is the father of a Busy Bee! All the other first grade kids came to our room, too. The firefighters wife came too, and took some photos because I didn't have my camera at school. Sorry about that!

The firefighter told us about the different kinds of buildings ~ and boats ~ that he helps to protect.

He showed us the clothes that he wears, including the tank of air, and showed us what a firefighter would look like if he or she ever had to come into our homes looking for us during a fire. He turned off all the lights and crawled on the floor to show us how scarey it could be, and he told us that it was VERY important for us to make LOTS of noise so that the firefighters can find us in a smokey house. We should scream or bang some objects together to help us make noise. NEVER HIDE!

He let us hold his heavy clothes. He also showed us slides of the tools that firefighters use.

Do all of you have smoke detectors?

Do all of you have a special place to meet outside in case you ever have a fire in your house?
